Question: How do I create a custom report?

Answer

You create custom reports by using the SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Designer inside Visual Studio (Business Intelligence Development Studio), which ships with the SQL Server 2005 client tools. To create a custom report, you create a new Report Project in Visual Studio. You then use the New Report wizard to connect to a data source and generate your report query. When prompted for a data source, you connect to the TFS data warehouse database (“TFSWarehouse”) and change the data source type to “Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services”.

The New Report wizard builds an .rdf report file. Next, you need to deploy the report to your Team Foundation Server so that it can appear in your team projects. You can optionally add it to a process template so that it appears in all team projects based on the template. After deployment, you can run the report by double-clicking it beneath the Reports folder in the Team Explorer window.
